Made from pasteurized cow milk.

This is a unique bandage-wrapped cheddar creation that includes a surprise: Freshly ground whole vanilla bean is added during the cheese-making process! It’s a creamy, delicious experience.

Sold in a 7-ounce portion.

It’s another interesting cheese from the Artisan Cheese Exchange and its Deer Creek brand.

Description

The Doe Cheddar cheese

Silver Winner for International cheese awards 2015 and 3rd place holder for American Cheese Society (ACS) 2015

The Doe is a creamy, bandaged-wrapped cheddar that is marbled with pure Madagascar Bourbon vanilla bean not only giving it a unique flavor but is exquisite visually!

The Artisan Cheese Exchange, located in northeast Wisconsin, makes a great variety of wonderful cheeses.  Fromagination carries several of the Deer Creek brand varieties, including The Doe.  Also carried by Fromagination are Imperial Buck, Blue Jay, Robin, Rattle Snake and Proprietor’s Grand Reserve cheeses.  Founder Chris Gentine chose the names and labeling for these artisan cheeses based her affinity for a children’s storybook, The Golden Story Book of River Bend, which was written by Richard Scarry’s wife Patricia Scarry.

Pairing suggestions: Apple crisps, cashews, dried fruit, and chocolates.

Absolutely nothing special about this cheese. There is nothing about its flavor that sets it apart from any other run-of-the-mill mild white cheddar that you can easily find. Don’t buy this expecting any kind of sweet or vanilla taste. I don’t know what type of magic they enchant this stuff with when they make it, but despite visibly being coated in vanilla bean bits, and having vanilla bean inclusions when cut into, there is NO vanilla taste whatsoever. It is a true conundrum. Skip this cheddar, you are not missing out on anything. An utterly boring cheese.
