Norwegian Gjetost cheese

Made from pasteurized cow and goat milk with vegetarian rennet.

This cheese is aged 1 – 2 months.

Also called the Ski Cheese of Norway, it is pronounced ‘Yay-toast’ (think: Yay! I’m putting this on my toast!). A Norwegian cheese is known for refueling Alpine skiers post-slalom, Gjetost packs one-of-a-kind sweetness inside its bright red package.

Wisconsin has a sizeable Norwegian population and Gjetost has been a store favorite.

Description

Norwegian Gjetost cheese

It may have the firm, smooth texture of fresh fudge and taste like molten caramel, but this confection is 100% cheese, made from pasteurized goat and cow milk that is aged into tight little cubes in 1-2 months.
Pairing suggestions: Try it by slicing ribbons of Gjetost onto wedges of crisp, green apples and washing it down with a nutty brown ale or hard cider.

Yes, this is geitost. Yes, it’s made by Tine, so it tastes like it should. But the only reason I ordered from Fromagination instead of amazon (which is almost half price per oz) is that the picture and description indicates that this comes in big cuts/cylinders. So I was disappointed to receive a whole bunch of the silly 8oz/250g Ski Queen cubes, each of which a Norwegian family would finish in one breakfast.
