_________

The Founder: Yaw Asare is the founder of Sharay’s Ghana Style Brittles.

Sharay was his childhood nickname and from a young age, he always had an intense love of peanut brittle, or Nkati cake as they call it in his home country, Ghana, West Africa. Having tried enough peanut brittle to know what’s good (and what isn’t), Yaw set about bringing an authentic range of Ghana-style peanut brittle to the US.

Since migrating to the US, Yaw dreamed of owning and operating his own business. After pursuing several ventures, he re-discovered his love of traditional West African foods. Asare was drawn to the peanut brittle he grew up in Ghana and spent time finessing a recipe he got from his mother.

In July 2020, he introduced Ghana Style Brittle at the Appleton Downtown Farmers Market in Appleton, Wisconsin. Over the last year, he has worked closely with local specialty foods stores in Wisconsin to bring his unique product to candy lovers.
